Swim plugs are custom earplugs designed to stop water entering the ear canal, which is especially desirable for children who have had drainage grommets inserted into their ears. Swim plugs are made to float, allowing for easy detection if they are removed in the swimming pool. A wide range of colours are available.

Musician Earplugs – Offering Protection While On Stage

Musician earplugs are specifically designed to evenly reduce the volume of sound entering the ear across all frequencies. They preserve the natural response of the open ear, so that sound heard while wearing these earplugs has the same qualities as the original, but is a set number of decibels quieter. Each set of musician earplugs must be custom moulded to the user’s ears. Regular use of these earplugs while practising, performing and listening to music protects the user’s hearing from the cumulative effects of overexposure to loud sound suffered by both musicians and those who attend loud performances regularly.

Conceived by leading audiologists at the University of California in San Francisco, LACE is an interactive aural rehabilitation program which encourages the development of good listening skills, one of the most essential components in effective communication. It is accessed via users’ own computers or DVD players, and has already helped thousands of people, who live with some degree of hearing loss, increase their listening skills by up to 45%. Just as physical therapy can help rebuild muscles and adjust movements to compensate for physical weakness or injury, LACE helps users develop skills and strategies to deal with situations when their hearing is inadequate.

We don’t really hear in our ears; our brains do the work of hearing. Hearing devices can help a person detect softer sounds, but they don’t necessarily provide good listening skills. LACE teaches users how to make the best possible use of their hearing skills. Other components covered by LACE include rapid thought processing, auditory memory, use of language skills and interactive strategies, abilities that can be damaged both by hearing loss and by the natural ageing process. LACE is designed to enhance the ability to communicate by training the brain to use these skills.

LACE is recommended for people who already wear hearing devices, are just acquiring hearing devices, or simply wish to improve their listening skills, as even people with normal hearing can be poor listeners. It is available for Windows XP, Vista and 7, as well as Apple’s OS X and most DVD players, and allows users the confidence to know that what they thought they heard was what was actually spoken.
