HEARING TESTS IN MELBOURNE

Our hearing can deteriorate for a number of reasons

Hearing loss affects one in six Australians and is also a common part of ageing. Nearly three in four people over the age of 70 have some degree of hearing loss. Hearing loss can also result from cumulative environmental factors or lifestyle factors such as frequent exposure to loud music or noise, vascular degeneration caused by smoking and dietary habits, and the frequent use of ototoxic prescription medication.
Many types of hearing loss are gradual, but sudden hearing loss is a medical emergency! We can see you for urgent hearing tests at any of our Melbourne locations.

If your hearing is causing you concern

We recommend making an appointment for a hearing test with our experienced and qualified audiologists. These tests can determine the nature and severity of any hearing loss you might be experiencing. If a person does not get their hearing loss treated for an extended period, auditory deprivation can cause a loss of cognitive function, losing the ability to interpret words.

Is your hearing affecting your life?

If you’re not sure whether you need a hearing test, consider the following questions:

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time to arrange an appointment with Advanced Hearing. We can help you understand the nature and severity of your potential hearing deficit and advise you on the steps you can take to reclaim your hearing.

Your appointment

During your appointment, the audiologist at Advanced Hearing will ask you about your history and any activity limitations (e.g., communication difficulties), and participation restrictions you are experiencing. We take into account your personal and environmental factors if creating a hearing management plan.

You may wish to have someone accompany you to the appointment to ensure you get the most out of your appointment with Advanced Hearing. The care we provide is person and family-centred, meaning we involve you in all decisions about your health.

It is standard for the following to take place as part of the assessment:

Your audiologist will talk through their findings with you on the day, and help you understand the type, degree and cause of your hearing loss.
